Morning Proof

This Privacy Policy describes how Morning Proof ("we", "our", or "the app") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application.

            Summary: Your habits, streaks, settings, health data and Screen Time choices stay on your device. We don't run user accounts on a server, we don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across other apps or websites. The main thing that leaves your device is a photo you choose to submit for AI verification: it goes through our server to Anthropic's Claude AI so it can be checked, and our server doesn't keep it. We also use a few service providers (Google Firebase, Superwall and, if you choose them, Sign in with Apple or Google), described below.
        

1. Information We Collect

Photos and Video Frames (AI Verification)

When you verify a habit with your camera (for example, a photo of your made bed), the app sends:

The photo you took, or for video habits, a small number of still frames taken from your short video
The name of the habit and, for custom habits, the verification instructions you wrote

These are sent over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to our server, which runs on Google Cloud (Firebase Cloud Functions). Our server forwards them to Anthropic's Claude API, which checks whether the habit was completed, and then sends the result back to the app. We use them only to verify your habit. Our server does not save your photos or video frames, and we don't use them for any other purpose. See "AI-Powered Features" below for how Anthropic handles this data.

On-Device Verification with Apple Intelligence (Optional)

On supported devices, a habit photo may instead be verified on your device using Apple Intelligence. When a photo is verified on-device, the analysis happens entirely on your iPhone: the photo is not sent to our server or to Anthropic.

Health Data (Optional)

If you grant permission, the app accesses the following data from Apple HealthKit:

Sleep Analysis: Used to track your sleep goal progress and display sleep duration
Step Count: Used to track your daily step goal progress
Workout Data: Used to verify exercise habit completion

This health data is:

Read directly from Apple HealthKit on your device
Never transmitted to our server or to any third party
Used solely to display your health metrics and track goal progress within the app
Never used for advertising or sold

Screen Time (Optional App Blocking)

If you turn on app blocking, the app uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) framework. Apple gives the app only private tokens for the apps and categories you select, so we can't see which apps you chose. Your selections, schedule and blocking state are stored only on your device and are never sent to us or to any third party.

Account Information

Signing in is optional; you can also continue without an account. If you sign in:

Sign in with Apple: we receive your Apple user identifier, plus your name and email only if you choose to share them
Sign in with Google: we receive your Google account identifier, name and email address

This information is stored only on your device (in the iOS Keychain) and is used to personalize the app, for example to fill in your name. We don't run an account server, so it is not sent to us.

Subscription Information

Purchases are processed by Apple. We never receive your payment details. The app reads your subscription status from the App Store on your device and shares it with Superwall, which shows the subscription screen (see "Third-Party Services").

Crash Reports and Diagnostics

If the app crashes or a feature such as AI verification fails, Firebase Crashlytics (a Google service) collects a diagnostic report. It can include the crash or error details (such as which app feature was in use), your device model, iOS and app version, and a Firebase installation identifier. These reports don't include your photos, health data, or the name and email from your account. We use them only to find and fix bugs.

Data Stored on Your Device

The app stores the following only on your device:

Your habit tracking history and streaks
App settings and preferences
Your subscription status

2. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used exclusively to:

Verify your habit completions through AI-powered photo analysis
Track and display your progress and streaks
Display health metrics from Apple HealthKit (if enabled)
Block and unblock the apps you choose (if app blocking is enabled)
Send notifications about your routine and goals (if enabled)
Process and check subscriptions through Apple's App Store
Find and fix crashes and other bugs

We do not sell your information, use it for advertising, or use it to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies.

3. AI-Powered Features

AI Disclosure: Morning Proof uses Anthropic's Claude AI to analyze habit photos and verify habit completion. When you submit a photo (or video frames) for verification, it is sent through our Google Cloud server to Anthropic's API, together with the habit's name and any instructions you wrote for a custom habit. This analysis is used solely to determine whether your habit has been completed. Our server does not store your photos. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, Anthropic does not use data sent through its API to train its AI models. Anthropic may keep API data for a limited period, for example to detect and prevent misuse, as described in Anthropic's Privacy Policy. On supported devices, photos verified on-device with Apple Intelligence never leave your iPhone.

4. Third-Party Services

Morning Proof uses the following third-party services. Each receives only the data described here:

Anthropic (Claude AI)

Receives the photos or video frames you submit for verification, along with the habit's name and any custom verification instructions, and returns a verification result. Anthropic does not train its models on this data under its commercial terms. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.

Google Firebase (Google Cloud)

Cloud Functions: Our server code runs here. It relays verification requests between the app and Anthropic and does not store your photos. Like most web services, Google Cloud keeps standard technical request logs (such as the time of a request and its IP address) to operate and secure the service.
Crashlytics: Collects crash reports and diagnostics, as described above.
App Check: Helps confirm that requests to our server come from the genuine Morning Proof app, using Apple's App Attest and DeviceCheck services. It does not identify you personally.

Earlier versions of the app (1.0.8 and earlier) also included Google Analytics for Firebase, which automatically collected basic usage events (such as app opens) and device information together with an app-instance identifier. The app itself never read or used this data, and Google Analytics has been removed from the app starting with version 1.1.

Superwall

Superwall shows the app's subscription screen. It receives basic device and app information (such as device model, iOS version, language, region and app version), an anonymous app-specific identifier, how you interact with the subscription screen, and your subscription status and purchase events. It does not receive your photos, health data, or the name and email from your account. See Superwall's Privacy Policy.

Google Sign-In (Optional)

If you choose to sign in with Google, Google handles the sign-in and shares your Google account identifier, name and email with the app. See Google's Privacy Policy.

Apple Services

Sign in with Apple: For optional sign-in
App Store / StoreKit: For processing subscriptions
HealthKit: For accessing health data (with your explicit permission); this data stays on your device
Screen Time (Family Controls): For the optional app blocking feature; this data stays on your device
Apple Intelligence: For optional on-device photo verification on supported devices; this data stays on your device

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is primarily stored locally on your device using Apple's secure data storage systems. We protect your information by:

Relying on iOS data protection and storing sign-in information in the iOS Keychain
Sending data only over encrypted connections (HTTPS)
Not storing your photos or video frames on our servers
Keeping health data and Screen Time selections on your device

6. Data Retention

Your habit data, settings and sign-in information are stored on your device until you:

Use the "Delete Account & Data" feature in Settings
Delete the app

Photos and video frames are not kept by our server after verification. Anthropic may keep API data for a limited period as described in its privacy policy. Crash reports are kept by Google for a limited period as described in Firebase's privacy information.

7. Your Rights and Account Deletion

You have the right to:

Access your data (visible within the app)
Delete your account and data at any time using "Delete Account & Data" in Settings. This removes your habits, streaks, settings and sign-in information from the app. Because we don't keep your account on a server, there is nothing else for us to delete.
Revoke permissions for Camera, Photos, Health and Screen Time at any time in iOS Settings
Opt out of health data tracking and app blocking
Contact us with any privacy question or request

Please note:

Subscriptions: Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription. Billing continues through Apple until you cancel it in Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions on your iPhone.
Sign in with Apple: To also stop using your Apple Account with Morning Proof, follow Apple's instructions at support.apple.com/102571.
Sign in with Google: You can remove Morning Proof's access in your Google Account under Security > Your connections to third-party apps & services.

8. Children's Privacy

Morning Proof is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
